Domain name transfers

We can currently accept the transfer of the following domains

.com, .net, .org, .cc, .info, .biz, .us, .eu, .gg, .je, .co.gg, .co.je, .cn, .ca, .co.uk, .plc.uk, .ltd.uk, .me.uk, and .org.uk. All Nominet names. All CentralNic domains such .uk.com. .gb.net, .eu.com, etc can also be transferred.

Transferring your domain name extends any existing registration term by another period (1 or 2 years depending on the domain). Once transferred you benefit from our low renewal fees, domain management tools, and fast, friendly support.

If any of the domains are not .uk domain names, before initiating the transfer please ensure your domain is not 'locked' by your current registrar (we cannot request the transfer until the name is unlocked), and that you have the 'EPP' or 'authorisation key' for that domain. You should make sure the whois administrative contact is correct as an email may be sent to that address requesting authorisation. If no-one responds, the transfer may not complete. Please note that some registrars may not allow the transfer of domains less than 60 days old. If you want to transfer your UK domain away from Microtech to another Nominet member, please go here. Auto change name servers
This changes the name servers to Microtech's once the transfer is complete. If using this option on live domains you should ensure that your dns zone files are already configured.

Lock domains
Prevents unauthorised transfer. We strongly recommend you lock your domains after transfer to prevent the possibility of authorised transfers.

Suspended transfer submission
This applies only to domains that require email authorisation. If you would like to enter your transfer order now and have us wait until the domain is unlocked and the correct domain contact is showing in whois, enter the domain contact email address here. Your transfer will not be submitted until this contact is shown in whois and the domain is unlocked.

Transfer of .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, .US, and .CN
These domains use the EPP method of transfer. As well as seeking authorisation from the domains owners, you need to provide an 'authorisation key' to authorise the transfer. This can be obtained from your current registrar.

Transfer of NON .UK domain names
For transfer of domains ending in anything other than .uk, the current admin and technical contact for the domain will receive an email asking for authorisation to transfer the domain. It is important that one of the contacts reply to the email so that your transfer can be completed.

Transfer of .UK domain names
For UK domains the IPS tag must be changed to 'MICROTECH'. Your current ISP/registrar should be familiar with this procedure and further details will be given on the following pages. Don't worry, It's nowhere near as technical as it sounds! Transferring your name to us will not change where your DNS points to so your sites should continue to run as they are now if you already have sites configured. If your domain is currently held with UK2, UK2.NET, Namezero, or Freenetname, you may not be able to transfer it without paying them a 'transfer' fee. You can change the TAG without the involvement of your current ISP/Registrar via Nominet for a small fee.

If you would prefer to pay for your UK or GG/JE domains when they come up for renewal rather than as part of this transfer process, please tick here Ticking this box will result in us sending you a renewal invitation when the domain is due to be renewed instead of us renewing it as part of the transfer. This makes it completely free of charge to move a UK/gg/je domain to Microtech and you still get our excellent dns services free! Please note that if you decide to change your TAG away from Microtech before the domain is renewed you will have to pay the full standard transfer fee before we can release it.
